Discover the journey behind Marcs Sound Healing path

About Marc

Hi, my name is Marc Hatton. My first introduction to the sound of the gong came relatively recently, in 2021, during a sound session at the Pyramids of Chi in Ubud, Bali.

It was a profound experience that brought into focus a lifelong fascination with sound. Over the years, this has taken many forms, from attending live music to exploring a wide spectrum of global and traditional sounds across more than three decades.

In early 2024, I acquired my first gong. Throughout 2024 and into 2025, I undertook an intensive formal training in Sound Healing with Gongs. With the guidance of my teacher, the strength of the group I trained alongside, and the support of my family, this has grown into a clear and committed path, sharing the transformative potential of the gong with those who feel drawn to experience it.

my relationship with sound

While not musical in a conventional sense, I have long been aware of the role sound and vibration play in our lives, particularly when we take the time to truly listen. This understanding has been shaped not only through study, but through personal experience.

For example, both of my sons were introduced to sound before birth, with the same calming tones played during pregnancy and at the time of their births. Even now, those sounds still hold their attention in a noticeable way.

Instruments and Sound

I work with a range of carefully selected instruments, including German-made gongs by Paiste and Tone of Life (Sona, Johannes Heimrath). Forest Resonance has also recently been appointed the sole UK representative for Andromeda Gongs, founded by Jesse Blauwhof.

These artisan instruments, alongside tubular bells, singing bowls and other sound tools, form part of the immersive sound environment I offer. I also work with gongs by Grotto Sonora, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, and a small collection of bespoke instruments.

The Approach

Over the past two years, I have explored how this wider understanding of sound can sit alongside gong work. This has led to the creation of a carefully curated library of natural sound recordings, which are occasionally and subtly woven into sessions. These are introduced with care within a precisely designed immersive sound environment, always guided by a simple principle, less is more.

In some sessions, I may also work with elements such as binaural beats, bilateral harmonics and isochronic tones. These are used sparingly and primarily at the beginning of a session to support a gentle transition into a deeply meditative, “not asleep, not awake” state, allowing the gong to become the central focus.

Sessions can also be offered with no electronic elements at all, depending on personal preference.

The experience

A recent addition to Forest Resonance is the use of sound vibration beds, which allow the resonance of the gong to be felt more directly through the body. This creates a subtle, tactile connection to the lower frequencies, extending beyond what is typically heard.

I also work with the “Dream Machine”, a light-based device inspired by the work of Brion Gysin, which explores altered states of consciousness through rhythmic stroboscopic light. Further information can be found in the Dream Machine and Gongs section.

All sessions are held within a carefully considered and respectful framework, where the integrity of the gong and its potential to support meaningful shifts in awareness is always central.

Alongside small group sessions, I offer one-day introductory experiences for those who feel curious about working with gongs more deeply. For those looking to deepen their gong practice, I offer dedicated Flumie workshops designed to develop confidence, technique and a deeper understanding of friction mallet playing. Following my accreditation as a B Love Flumie Teacher with Shion Buschner in 2026, these small-group workshops provide hands-on guidance in a relaxed and supportive setting.
